Happening in Olympia

Olympic Wilderness has been renamed the Daniel J. Evans Wilderness at Olympic National Park in honor of former Republican Governor Dan Evans. “Renaming this wilderness is a fitting tribute,” former congressman Norm Dicks said of the decision.

Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson is requesting the U.S. Supreme Court review a decision that state officials say will require billions of dollars on salmon habitat. In 2001 the tribes, backed by the U.S. Justice Department, sued Washington to require it to replace hundreds of culverts to better allow fish to pass.

Western Washington

Seattle Tunnel Partners and Hitachi Zosen knew Bertha was prone to breaking in 2013, and according to insurance lawyers knew how flawed the machine was before they put it underground, but failed to stop the project.

Eastern Washington

Pasco City Council candidate Marla Rico has not been able to be contacted since her filing by the city staff, nor the county auditor’s office. Attempts to mail Rico information, including her voter ID card, have been met with returned mail. The questions city officials are trying to answer now are whether or not Rico lives in Pasco city limits and how they can get ahold of her.
