Western Washington
Seattle City Council unanimously passed an ordinance that will outlaw landlords from denying rental applicants based on their criminal records. The sole exception would be if a landlord can prove a legitimate business reason for turning away a potential tenant who is registered as a sex-offender.
Seattle’s Maritime labor force is running thin, with nowhere near enough water-transportation workers trained and ready to replace the 1/3 of the force who will soon be eligible for retirement.
Renton and Kent officials will discuss an ordinance to ban the placement of heroin injection sites in their cities. Cities that have already banned the sites are Bellevue, Federal Way and Auburn.
The next draft regarding the Key Arena negotiations should be ready soon, with city officials reporting that they hope a final deal can be reached by the end of the year.
Eastern Washington
State regulators have denied Avista Corp’s request to increase electric rates by 2.9 percent. The increase would have brought another $15 million in revenue to the company.
