Happening In Olympia
Student Loan Transparency Act passed through both chambers last week. Students will now begin to receive notifications with updates regarding their loans and loan statuses, including the amount they owe back, on July 1, 2018.
Reports show 193,000 students last year missed 18 or more school days. “I hope people use (this data) to say, ‘Hey, my district’s struggling with this. Let’s find another district that’s doing well and see what they’re doing,” Krissy Johnson, prevention and intervention supervisor with the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction said.
Western Washington
Snohomish County airport officials have reached an agreement with Japan to help grow their aerospace industry. County Executive Dave Somers has said the agreement made between the officials and Japan is going to aid in information exchanges and project assistance, strengthening ties between the governments and helping to benefit production on aircraft manufacturing and air cargo operations.
Eastern Washington
419 emergency room patients at Virginia Mason Memorial hospital in Yakima may have had their privacy violated. An audit showed 21 employees had improper access to patient records between October and January and may have improperly used that access, although the hospital is reporting they believe it was just “individuals who were bored,” at this time.
