John Spellman, the first King County Executive and last Republican governor, died yesterday at 91. Spellman served one term, of which he was sanguine: “You don’t get elected to get re-elected. You get elected to do the job.”

The first thing Democrats did with their new state Senate majority? Repealed the 2/3 rule for tax increases – you know what’s on their minds.

Democrats are under pressure for a “car tab relief” bill because of Sound Transit, so they’re doing it…but they don’t want to have to vote on any pesky Republican amendments. Can’t have them giving too much of the taxpayers’ money back to them!    

What’s the over/under on how many times Jay Inslee says “green” or “clean” in today’s State of the State address?  

Session convenes today in Olympia…we can’t wait to see what new ways Inslee has come up with to try to push a carbon tax through.

Democratic leaders don’t seem very committed to Jay Inslee’s agenda
