It’s been a challenging month for Jay Inslee – his own party ignored his choice for state chairman, the Speaker of his own party won’t bring his priority bills up for a vote to raise taxes and the minimum wage, and his decision to ignore the state’s death penalty is popular only with the ACLU-types who were already in his corner, and certainly not with the relatives of victims of the murderers on death row.
Now his spokesman is reduced to claiming that the Republican-dominated State Senate should trust him and not hold up on a transportation package even though he might later unilaterally impose a $1 per gallon fuel tax because “the governor has pledged to subject any proposal to stringent economic analysis.”
Yes, nothing says certainty like Inslee making a pledge, just like his pledge to veto tax increases (spoiler alert: Inslee has already proposed $1.8 billion in higher taxes).
