You’ve got to hand it to mega-rich liberal donor Nick Hanauer (and, of course, he will hand it to himself as well, as you can see from his bragging in this Seattle Times feature) – he is willing to kill his own company almost as much any other business in Washington State with his foolhardy push to increase the nation’s highest minimum wage.
Hanauer’s partnership with the radical SEIU 7775NW union is one he’s proud of – even if the CEO who now runs the family business Hanauer inherited points out that:
“if someone were to force me to move the base wage in our manufacturing organizations to $15 an hour, we will be out of business in six months. Period.”
But that doesn’t stop Hanauer, who has made several hundred million dollars off good bets on tech companies like Amazon, from being the very-vocal poster boy for the $15 dollar-an-hour movement. It seems that basic economics are far less important to “one of the world’s best strategists” (as he defines himself) than being very popular with downtown Seattle’s liberal crowd.
