Perhaps taking inspiration from the Washington Education Association’s successful partnership with Olympia Democrats to take away money from poor students, King County Councilman Larry Phillips is leading the charge against poor people who shop or own a car in his county.
The Washington Policy Center’s Bob Pishue points out that neighboring counties have figured out how to improve transit services without tax increases. But for Councilman Phillips and the Demrat majority running the allegedly non-partisan County Council, it’s easier to raise regressive taxes than to negotiate a fairer deal with the public employees union that benefits the most from the taxes he wants to push higher.
