Among the many “successes” of the Democrats in Olympia during the just-completed legislative session was dooming any chance of improving our transportation system because of their unwillingness to consider reforms to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
So, to Jay Inslee that failure to act meant it was the Republicans’ fault, of course.
The reality is that the Republican-led coalition controlling the State Senate has been consistent for over a year – reforms before revenue. And the Democrats running the House and Governor’s mansion have, unfortunately been just as consistent – raise taxes first, and do not pass any reforms which might hold a public employee accountable for any of the many mistakes at WSDOT.

How will these policy changes – not reforms, but policy changes – improve WSDOT performance or accountability?
The Republican-dominated Majority Coalition wants to get rid of the sales tax on transportation construction materials, which would reduce money to the state’s general fund. The coalition also wants to shift the funding of stormwater-runoff projects from gas-tax revenue to a state Ecology Department-related hazardous substances tax.
Obviously, these are completely unrelated to improving accountability or reforming the agency. In fact, these “reforms” would funnel more money into what you describe as an agency with zero accountability and a history of “many mistakes.” The absence of logic in your posts is stunning.
