Freshman Congresswoman Suzan DelBene has recognized she has a campaign on her hands now that Republican Pedro Celis has entered the race, so she is resorting to the time-honored tradition of using her taxpayer-funded congressional office to get her “grassroots” campaign going – by organizing and publicizing a ride-along with a UPS driver.
You can tell just how silly an stunt this is when the liberal blog Publicola takes a Democrat to task for it, calling it “tone deaf.” As Publicola further points outs in suggesting that voters might not give her credit for her pretending to work performance, “given her stratospheric personal wealth—and what she’s actually getting paid for the day (U.S. representatives make $174,000 a year)—the suspension of disbelief hardly translates.”
But for DelBene, at least it got her name in the media a couple of times, to remind people that she’s in Congress – and that’s certainly more than her party-line record has managed to garner in her first 18 months on the “job”. Maybe she would be better off shadowing a fellow member of Congress, to learn how that job’s done?
