Jay Inslee struggles with understanding the importance of government transparency—Shift has reported on his issues with the concept in the past. This evening, Inslee’s struggle with open government continues with his town hall meeting on his education plans for 2015.
Inslee will hold a town hall meeting in Bellevue at Newport High School from 6:30-7:30 p.m. tonight. Our green governor is expected to discuss his plan to meet the State Supreme Court’s McCleary decision by fully funding K-12 education, among other topics. Inslee will also participate in a moderated Q&A with educators, parents and students. The town hall will be linked to live streams at Spokane’s Rogers High School, Moses Lake’s Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center and Tacoma’s Jason Lee Middle School.
Here’s the kicker: though Inslee is live streaming his town hall to other locations across the state, he is not streaming it online. TVW will not, as is the custom, provide a live stream on its website.
Inslee loves to boast of our state’s technological advancement, yet his own office cannot seem to figure out how to live stream a town hall meeting. That, or Inslee is hiding something. Interestingly enough, Inslee also failed to post his Friday talk at Washington Policy and Budget Center’s 2014 Budget Matters conference on his website—a open government practice.
Melissa Santos, a reporter for the News Tribune, is not too happy with the lack of transparency—at a town hall meeting no less. Responding to tweets from concerned parents who want to watch the town hall meeting but could not attend in person, Santos tweeted the governor’s office. Jay Inslee is very transparent, everyone with a brain can see through his lies & deception, except maybe his liberal mindless supporters.
