Democrats like Jay Inslee enjoy talking about any successes in state government, even ideas they opposed, to justify their re-election campaigns. Indeed, just consider the recent gubernatorial debate, where Inslee was happy to talk about reduced college tuition, which state Senate Republicans insisted on in 2015, and which Inslee fought against.
However, the liberals leave it to others, lower on the bureaucratic food chain, to admit when things aren’t quite going so well.
Such was the case with the announcement from the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges that its latest computer software project “is now years behind schedule and $10 million over budget, although officials say the program is headed in the right direction.”
The “officials” left to inform the public about the typical story about missed deadlines and cost overruns was the “director of communications”, but she made sure to tell the Spokane Spokesman-Review that “we have come a long way with it, but issues remain,”, and that “large projects like this can be very complex and challenging.”
It seems like projects undertaken by state government are always “very complex and challenging”, but that those challenges are never taken into account when budgeting for the project is done. But the, it isn’t their money, so no harm, right?
