A pair of liberal activists took to the pages of The News Tribune to make sure Democrat legislators understand their marching orders next session – you must raise taxes.
For these writers, there is no other choice – “Facing choices like this, it’s apparent that raising revenue is imperative.”
The choices they think legislators face is cutting social services or raising taxes if they are to meet the mandate of the Supreme Court’s McCleary decision to fully fund public education. For these activists, “Some suggest we divert funds from social services, and to that we absolutely disagree.”
Evidently every social service program is off limits to these writers, as they wrap them in the cloak of “All children in Washington.” They evidently don’t consider that there could be other places to reduce government spending – or that the state’s revenues are going up at 4% or so a year already.
Nope for the liberal progressives who guide the Democrat party in Washington, the only correct answer – to just about any question – is to raise taxes.
