The motto of Washington State Democrats – when it comes to the state income tax – must certainly be “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” Because, that’s exactly the approach of state House and Senate Democrats this legislative session.
The 2016 session is less than a week old, yet Democrat lawmakers have already lined up to reintroduce bills that would establish a state income tax… thus fulfilling a plank in their party’s platform, their self-described “guiding principle.” Without further ado, here are the liberals’ favorite bills:
- A group of House Democrats reintroduced last session’s state capital gains income tax bill… because they never seem learn.
2. A group of Senate Democrats reintroduced a bill that would open the door for a state capital gains income tax… by voters’ approval.
3. Two Senate Democrats reintroduced a bill that would seek to implement a state income tax “for basic education funding”… because that’s what the money would really go toward.
4. Four Senate Democrats reintroduced an amendment to the state constitution that would allow for a state income tax… as if that’ll work.
