The Daily Briefing – September 12, 2025

Today’s Daily Briefing focuses on reactions to the assassination of Charlie Kirk in our state. Regular state news commentary will resume Monday.

When “Tolerance” Looks Like Celebrating Murder

North Creek High School principal Dr. Eric McDowell is under fire after mocking Charlie Kirk’s assassination on Instagram, sneering that “gun control would have been far more effective” than thoughts and prayers. Families blasted the post as “disgusting” and “deplorable,” noting that students needed a safe space after seeing graphic footage of the murder—not a lecture from a school leader who seemed to condone political violence. The district insists the comments “don’t reflect” its values, but this is becoming all too common: Democrat-run schools preaching “kindness and inclusion” while their administrators cheer when conservatives are silenced—permanently. KOMO Joins the Blame Game

Charlie Kirk was gunned down in cold blood while speaking on a college campus—and KOMO’s takeaway? Point the finger at Kirk and Republicans for “escalating political violence.” Instead of condemning the climate of hatred that painted him as a villain, KOMO parrots Democrats like Seth Moulton and Elizabeth Warren, who wasted no time turning a tragedy into a talking point. They even cite Jen Psaki and MSNBC hosts lecturing conservatives, while downplaying the Left’s own rhetoric that dehumanized Kirk for years. Families are mourning, a wife lost her husband, and two young daughters lost their father—but KOMO treats it like just another chance to dunk on conservatives. That’s not journalism. That’s propaganda dressed up as news. Read the article, for what’s worth, at KOMO News.

Democrats Preach “Unity” While Heckling Prayer

Rep. Michael Baumgartner (R-Spokane) says Congress is still reeling from Charlie Kirk’s assassination, calling it a tragic reminder of what happens when the Left insists on branding conservatives as “threats to democracy.” Kirk, who championed free speech and open debate on college campuses, was murdered while speaking to students—yet when Rep. Lauren Boebert asked for a prayer on the House floor, Democrats heckled and shouted about gun control. Some offered real condolences, but the “party of tolerance” couldn’t even keep it together for a moment of silence. As Baumgartner put it, the toxic rhetoric isn’t going away anytime soon—and that’s exactly the problem. Read more at Seattle Red.

In Seattle of All Places, Hundreds Honor Charlie Kirk

Hundreds gathered at Westlake Park for a candlelight vigil mourning the death and celebrating the life of Charlie Kirk, murdered this week during a free speech event at Utah Valley College. Organized by Pursuit NW and Pastor Russell Johnson, the event featured remarks from Jason Rantz, Rachel Savage, Washington GOP chair Jim Walsh, and Ari Hoffman. Johnson called Kirk “a hero” who paid with his life for daring to speak freely in today’s culture. Watch the vigil at Seattle Red.
