State Democrat Chair Tina Podlodowski sent out an angry tweet regarding Tom Steyer’s announcement that he is entering the Presidential campaign. She complained that Steyer should instead invest his $100 million in “every State Party in the country.” Typical of Democrats who believe they know better how to spend other people’s money. This greedy outrage is likely a result of knowing Steyer and his money will not be there to prop up Jay Inslee’s failing campaign. (Twitter)
Western Washington
With liberal policies continuing to make Seattle and King County a less desirable, yet more expensive place to live, homebuyers are rushing to reside in neighboring Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish counties. While home prices have dropped 2.3% over the past 12 months in King County (3.9% in Seattle), they have risen 10.6% in Kitsap, 7.3% in Pierce, and Snohomish 0.7%. (Seattle Times)
Seattle restaurant chain files for bankruptcy and blames government mandated pay increases as one of the primary causes. Restaurants Unlimited owns 35 eateries on the west coast including Palomino, Cutters Crabhouse and Horatio’s in Seattle. Company spokesman stated, “Over the past three years, the company’s profitability has been significantly impacted by progressive wage laws along the Pacific coast that have increased the minimum wage.” (Bloomberg)
Eastern Washington
The Downtown Spokane Partnership (DSP) is using private funds to help business owners reduce crime in their neighborhood. The DSP is assisting in paying for landscaping, building, and security improvements to deter illegal behavior. (Spokesman-Review)
Yakima City Council will once again take up a measure to ban ICE deportation planes from using Yakima Airport. The council previously voted against such a ban in May, but they are revisiting the question on July 16 due to a threatened boycott of Yakima merchants. (KIT Radio)
