Apparently, the national audience is not interested in listening to Jay Inslee either. Of all the candidates at Wednesday’s first presidential debate, Inslee was asked his thoughts the least. In the limited time he was given to speak, Inslee tried to “mansplain” that he had done the most for women’s health and abortion rights. This was immediately shot down by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) who drew laughter at Inslee’s expense by replying,“There are three women up here who have fought pretty hard for a woman’s right to choose” (Seattle Times)

In a fundraising email sent out following the debate, Inslee proclaimed he is the only candidate who “has made defeating climate change their top priority.” Yet in the debate, Inslee chose to go for cheap applause when he proclaimed that Donald Trump is the top threat to our national security. Meanwhile, many other candidates on the stage stole Inslee’s enviro thunder by saying climate change is the real threat.

Democrat Rep. Drew Hansen from Kitsap County has formed an “exploratory committee” to run for state Attorney General. In his press release, Hansen singled out “net-neutrality” as an issue he disagreed with Trump Administration. Since the doomsday predictions on the Administration’s actions have not come to pass, this might not be the best issue to garner broad public support. We would also like to continue to remind Democrat candidates that “exploratory committees” don’t exist in Washington State. (Washington State Wire)

The tunnel might be complete, but it could still cost the taxpayers more money. The Seattle Tunnel Partners are suing the state for a half billion dollars for cost overruns associated with building the Highway 99 tunnel underneath Seattle. The case goes to court this fall. (Seattle Times)

On the national level, liberal politicians are buying votes by proposing that taxpayers pay off outstanding college debt. Locally, liberal politicians want to raise our taxes to forgive millions in library fines. In fact, city councilmember Debra Juerez wants to be first in line to have the taxpayers settle her fees for overdue books. (MyNorthwest)

Stating, “It’s not supposed to be a profession or a career. I think it’s time.” Yakima Mayor Kathy Coffey has said that three terms are enough and that she will not be running for re-election this fall.  The mayor is selected by the councilmembers from those serving on the council. (Yakima Herald)

Spokane Valley (population 100,000) has a city council race that will likely determine the conservative/liberal split on the council. Incumbent conservative Arnie Woodard is running against two liberal challengers who want to flip the direction of the council. (Spokesman-Review).
