Olympia police responded to the state Administrative Office of Courts at 5:30 a.m. Monday for what appeared to be an earlier burglary. Two suspects broke into Building 2, which houses case management and data warehousing systems, but alarms were not triggered. (The Olympian)

After a close 4-3 vote, the Bellevue City Council is moving forward with permanent homeless shelters in the city. Deputy Mayor Lynne Robinson said she is happy to see the city doing something, but not everyone sees it that way. “It’s a false argument of like ‘we have to do something.’ Yes, we all want to do something, but there’s a difference between doing something the right way and the wrong way,” new Councilmember Jared Nieuwenhuis said. After previously being left out of the Top 3, Carmen Best is Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan’s nominee for police chief. “Everyone knows Chief Best and knows she can deliver results,” Durkan said. Best’s previous absence from a list of finalists led to an outcry by some community activists. Currently serving as interim chief, Best will need to make it through the city council’s confirmation process before she can scratch out the “interim” on her name tag. (Seattle Times)
Eastern Washington
Spokane’s city council voted unanimously to slow a push toward combining the region’s 911 system. Councilmembers attributed the delay to concerns they’ve heard from emergency responders. “The mayor’s response was, this is unfortunate, we’ve been working together to transform city services,” said Brian Coddington, spokesman for Mayor David Condon.
