State Attorney General Bob Ferguson sued Facebook and Google on Monday, alleging the tech giants failed to comply with state law on political advertising transparency. In a statement Ferguson said, “I understand this is a hassle for them, but I think the voters of our state have made it clear they expect transparency in this area.” (Spokesman Review)

A U.S. Supreme Court ruling yesterday in favor of a Colorado baker on grounds of religious freedom could have an impact on a case here in Washington. In a similar case, a Richland florist was fined under Washington law for not making the floral arrangements for a gay wedding, arguing it violated her religious beliefs. A.G. Bob Ferguson said he thinks the new ruling won’t affect Washington’s case. (Washington State Wire).

Western Washington

The city of Seattle is using trash bags and tow trucks to break up clusters of homeless vehicle campers scattered throughout the city. Because of the cleanups, 42,000 pounds of garbage and waste have already been cleared around RVs and other vehicles. (Seattle Time)

An online coupon index pegs Seattle with the second-most expensive grocery stores in America, second only to Manhattan. As the city council makes it more expensive for businesses to remain in Seattle, Sara Osborne with Safeway explains the price hike experienced by customer:. “The profit margin for groceries is very, very small, so any additional expense is typically passed on to (the customers).” (My Northwest)

Eastern Washington

The Yakima City Council is considering allowing a homeless encampment to operate year-round for the next two years. The camp would still be considered temporary. Assistant city attorney Sara Watkins said the temporary designation is important because state law relieves the city from civil liability for crimes that happen at a temporary camp. (Yakima Herald-Republic)
