Attendees at a Kshama Sawant-led rally were quite sure that Amazon and all other “big businesses” don’t pay enough in taxes. Sawant and the Seattle City Council are pushing a head tax, or employee hours tax, to punish companies for having the audacity of hiring employees and leading Seattle’s economic growth. Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan signed two ordinances yesterday expanding Seattle City Light programs that incentivize energy efficiency in buildings. The Mayor’s Office said of the bills, “This financial structure is designed to overcome building owners’ reluctance to undertake costly energy efficiency improvements…” Darn those stingy building owners. Eastern Washington
A recent Elway poll suggests that Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ congressional race could be tightening up, showing McMorris Rodgers with just a 6-point lead. Of those polled, 44 percent indicated they would vote for McMorris Rodgers, with 16 percent undecided. It should be noted that the poll has a 5-point margin of error. (Spokesman-Review)
