Mitzi Johanknecht’s lead over John Urquhart in the race to be King County Sheriff continues to grow. Johanknecht won 59 percent of Wednesday’s vote count, bringing her total to around 53 percent of the vote so far. (The Seattle Times)
Cary Moon conceded to Jenny Durkan yesterday, making the former attorney officially Seattle’s second female mayor in the city’s history. Of the results Moon said, “While the election results will probably continue to tighten, the outcome is unlikely to be what we hoped.” (The Seattle Times)
Incumbency was not a good look for mayoral candidates in Pierce County as five mayors were told to exit stage left by voters. You can review more Pierce County election results here. (The News Tribune)
While the Seattle mayoral contest saw an absolute blowout, the same cannot be said about the race to see who will be Everett’s next mayor. Judy Tuohy received 4,804 votes while Cassie Franklin collected 4,797. Looks like we can expect a photo finish in Snohomish County. (MyNorthwest)
Eastern Washington
Pasco School District’s $99.5 million bond picked up needed momentum Wednesday as it closed the gap on the 60 percent threshold required to pass. “We’ll continue to keep a close eye on the results,” said Superintendent Michelle Whitney. “We were prepared to move forward either way.” (The Tri-City Herald)
Incumbents in Spokane Valley received a lukewarm reception from voters at best. The Spokesman-Review reporting that, “valley voters tended to pull their support from some incumbent council members in Tuesday’s election…” You can read more about those races here. (The Spokesman-Review)
