A rough weekend for Washington sports fans 

Happening in Olympia

Lawmakers have written to the Issaquah School Board, requesting that they do not seek the maximum possible local property tax in the levy that will be voted on in February. The school board is currently looking to ask for the highest possible property tax. (The Seattle Times)

Western Washington

The Seattle Times has endorsed Jinyoung Lee Englund for the heated senate race in the 45th district. “Englund makes a persuasive case that her election will preserve a ‘balance of government’ that will better serve Washington state. For that reason, voters in the 45th should elect her,” the endorsement reads. (The Seattle Times)

Seattle City Council wants to add a tax on every Amazon employee. Two councilmembers proposed a per-employee tax on large Seattle employers – asserting that the money would be used to fund assistance to Seattle’s homeless population. (Read more at the Washington Policy Center)

Univ. of Washington study shows $15 is too high of a minimum wage and will lead to a tough economic future for the city. Jason Rantz of KIRO explains, “the self-sufficiency data actually suggests the $15 minimum wage in the Seattle area is more than enough to get by.” (My Northwest)

DOJ has ruled Seattle Police are in compliance with federal regulations after they were found not to be in compliance back in 2012. “We have not come to this conclusion lightly, said Seattle US Attorney Annette Hayes. (The Seattle Times)

Eastern Washington

Yakima City Council will vote on extending the lease to a homeless encampment on East Nob Hill Boulevard. The city currently owns the land and extending the lease would allow residents to stay on the property from March 15 to November 15. (The Spokesman-Review)

Clark County Fire District 3 has sent reinforcement engines to Northern California to help. “It’s devastating. We hope they are safe and can help out people who are involved in that area,” Assistant Chief Scott Sorenson said. (The Spokesman-Review)
