Happening in Olympia

Washington has moved into the grace period for the REAL ID law. The state has applied for an additional extension throughout October 2018, but that is still under review. Under the current grace period, the state has until January 22nd to update the security enhancements on state driver’s licenses and ID cards.

Western Washington

The liberal “journalists” at the Stranger uncovered some duplicity by King County Sheriff John Urquhart in which he was caught saying one thing to Republican groups and another thing to the Stranger’s Ed Board. Read more about it here.

Mayoral candidate Jenny Durkan has refunded her donations from Microsoft because of the election law in Seattle that prohibits candidates from accepting donation money from major city contractors.

Eastern Washington

Richland scientists won the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics for their roles in developing the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO): Michael Landry, Fred Raab and Barry Barish. 

Gov. Inslee is holding a session on gun violence in Yakima tomorrow so that he can speak to residents about how gun violence has impacted their community. The Governor also has plans to co-sponsor a gang summit in Tacoma later this year.
