Happening in Olympia

Gov. Inslee has appointed Cheryl Strange as the new head of DSHS. Strange will be taking over from Bill Moss in September. Strange will be leaving her position as the CEO of Western State Hospital.

Western Washington

Stacy Brown, chief of police for The Evergreen State College, has resigned following the ridiculous protests by students earlier this year. President George Bridges released a statement saying, “We are very grateful to Chief Brown for the leadership and professionalism she provided to the college throughout the past dix months. We wish her all the best.”

Mayoral candidates Jenny Durkan, Nikkita Oliver and Cary Moon spoke about traffic recently, discussing their solutions to the traffic plaguing the city. “Number one, looking into the future, (it’s about) getting more people out of single-occupancy vehicles,” Durkan said. (Read more responses here)

WSU President Kirk Schulz is introducing a new hiring process to help cut costs. “Because 85 percent of WSU’s costs are personnel-related… we will very carefully examine requests for new hires and out of cycle/retention increases,” Phil Weiler, VP of marketing and communications, said.
