“Jeff Simpson has been sexually abused by… Edward Murray,” an Oregon CPS caseworker wrote in a 1984 assessment regarding Seattle’s current Mayor and his foster son. The child-welfare investigator wrote, “under no circumstances should Mr. Murray be certified,” as a foster parent in the future. With The Seattle Times obtaining public records that were previously reported as destroyed, it appears that there was truth behind the allegations that led Murray to change his mind about running for re-election this last spring.

Seattle City Councilmember M. Lorena Gonzalez has asked Seattle Mayor Ed Murray to step down, and is asking the council to intervene if he does not take action, “to determine if a transition in executive leadership is merited under these circumstances.”

Many of Seattle’s mayoral candidates are also calling for Mayor Ed Murray’s resignation following the aforementioned investigation.

Seattle Mayor Murray has issued an executive order, requiring body cameras on all police officers in the city. The order asks that body cameras be implemented immediately.

Spokane Mayor David Condon is proposing an increase in utility rates, beginning January 1st and ending in 2020, at a rate increase of 2.9 percent.

Federal grants have been given for airport improvements in Walla Walla and Spokane. Walla Walla Regional Airport will receive $5.8 million and Spokane International Airport is set to receive $1.5 million for infrastructure improvements.
