Gov. Inslee highlights CNBC’s top state for business ranking, omits low ranking in multiple categories. While Inslee was quick to highlight Washington’s ranking as the #1 state for business, he conveniently failed to note that our state comes in 32nd for cost of doing business and 31st in business friendliness. A new head at the Dept. of Corrections has yet to be named, as Gov. Inslee and the head of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, Sen. Mike Padden (R-Spokane Valley), have yet to come to an agreement regarding agency oversight.
A retired Air Force major is suing the state for the cyberstalking law, saying it violates the First Amendment. The lawsuit asks how it can, “possibly be constitutional to ban mean speech online.”
Western Washington
A Seattle City Council committee voted to pass legislation that will increase citizen-based police oversight on Wednesday. The law, if passed by the full council, would allow for civil court actions to be taken after alleged biased policing.
Eastern Washington
Spokane Valley City Council was presented with a proposal Tuesday night that included a $1.3 million investment for a library. The library would be set up across street from the new City Hall.
Washington State University’s Board of Regents voted to raise tuition by 2.2 percent starting this coming fall after four years of unchanging, or declining, tuition rates.
