Western Washington
If you live in Seattle or Snohomish, your electrical bill may rise around 5.5 percent by 2019. Forty percent of Seattle City Light’s electricity comes from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). As BPA increases their rates, so will rates in Seattle and Snohomish.
The Nooksack tribe’s casino has been ordered to be shut down by the National Indian Gaming Commission. Under federal law, tribal casinos must be conducted by tribes with “federally recognized leadership” which the Nooksack do not currently have.
Washington’s Department of Corrections is paying a family $1.5 million after a man was killed in the Monroe Correctional Complex. The state agreed to paying the settlement, but added that the agency would not be admitting any liability.
Eastern Washington
Federal Energy Department officials warn of future radiation releases at Hanford, after multiple emergency evacuations occurred during the last month and a half. A full clean-up of the nuclear facility is expected to eventually cost around $100 billion.
