Klickitat and Grays Harbor residents may not have health care in 2018 after the counties failed to receive any proposals from health insurance companies before the June 7 deadline. State Insurance Commissioner Mark Kreidler said it is, “an unfortunate situation, we haven’t seen it before… even if you are paying all of the cost for yourself in the individual market, there is nothing offered in your county to cover you.”
ACLU of Washington has sued the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction on behalf of students with disabilities. “Washington’s constitution guarantees every child in the state the right to a public education. For the tens of thousands of students with disabilities who are suspended, expelled, or otherwise excluded from classrooms each year due to behavior related to their disabilities, this is an empty promise,” ACLU of Washington legal director Emily Chiang said.

The Port of Seattle announced that Ivar’s is losing their lease at Sea-Tac Airport. The iconic eatery’s President Bob Donegan isn’t taking this lying down. He cited a “bad process” claiming that “The people who sat on the evaluation panel were not experienced in business, let alone managing airport restaurants and they made bad choices.” They have launched a campaign for customers and fans to help them fight at KeepIvars.com.
Approving an income tax in Seattle is “blatantly illegal and unconstitutional,” says Washington Polity Center’s Jason Mercier. He goes on to argue why the entire state should care about Seattle potentially moving forward with the tax. Among other factors, voters have, “already rejected five income tax constitutional amendments.”
Majority of voters say they wouldn’t have approved ST3 taxes if they could vote again. In November, 70% of voters approved the measure that almost tripled car tabs for many.
Seattle mayoral candidate Jenny Durkan returned a campaign contribution from the attorney suing Mayor Ed Murray. Durkan has raised $163,000 so far in her campaign, including donations from two current Seattle City Councilmembers.
