Gov. Inslee signed a bill into law on Tuesday that will make it felony to receive four DUIs within under ten years. The current law makes five DUIs a felony.
A citizen commission voted to give 2% annual raises to elected officials’ salaries for the next two years. This includes all lawmakers and Gov. Inslee and was a decision made by a salary commission, comprised of citizens, said to be made based off of living costs and inflation rather than job performance.
Western Washington
Not all property tax payments in King County have been recorded, according to the county treasurer’s office after the department received about 75 complaints that their payments were not recorded – according to spokesperson for the King County Treasurer’s office, Cameron Satterfield, via The Seattle Times.
I-27 would ban any drug consumption sites in King County. The initiative effort is being led by Bothell Councilmember Joshua Freed, who says, “the initiative process is a way that we can have a voice as voters to let the powers-to-be know our position on the issue.”
“Over the past five years, King County Metro has settled 39 claims that involved injuries or death. Metro has paid about $38 million in these settlements”, reported the Dori Monson Show. The investigation and discovery were made after people sent in videos of bus drivers blatantly ignoring traffic laws – running red lights and allegedly going up to 25 mph over the speed limit.
Seattle has now created six jobs in total to handle the homelessness crisis. Total, the annual estimated salary for these jobs is just over half of a million dollars and the city has spent millions overall to try to find a solution.
A former deputy sheriff for King County is suing the county, saying Sheriff John Urquhart discriminates against female officers. Urquhart says an internal probe discovered Andrea Alexander had been taking, “money for an extended period of time while knowing she was not entitled to that money, which she admitted. She was subsequently fired for dishonesty. She never once raised a claim of retaliation or harassment as a reason for the investigation or termination.”
Seattle’s favorite socialist, Kshama Sawant, is relentless in her efforts to raise taxes, calling another town hall event this week to announce, “something that could be immediately done is actually a tax on higher income households – tax the rich as we are talking about.”
Eastern Washington
CEO of Spokane International Airport, Larry Krauter, believes that privatizing traffic air control would be harmful. He said the Spokane Airport would run the risk of reduced staffing as well as higher costs as they would be vulnerable to cuts.
Spokane’s Sacred Heart hospital has been running drills to practice transporting patients with Ebola from the airport to the hospital, which now has a special pathogens unit for people in Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Idaho who may be infected with highly infectious diseases. This unit came after the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human services gave a $2.1 million grant to the hospital.
Blessings Under the Bridge has been told to find a new location within 120 days. They are currently giving free meals to the homeless under the I-90 bridge on Wednesday evenings, but locals believe they are responsible for a spike in homeless camps close to schools and businesses.
Despite firefighters and volunteers handing out water in Airway Heights, the city is running low after being told their water sources are contaminated – making tap water unsafe for consumption. Fire chief Mitch Metzger says Food Services of America will be sending more than 20,000 gallons of water and that it will arrive “any minute.”
