“There seems to be little or no appetite among state lawmakers to go on record supporting a tax increase,” to comply with the McCleary ruling because it is not necessary, as pointed out by Liv Finne, Washington Policy Center. House Democrats have not even scheduled a vote on their plan to impose the taxes liberals have continue trumpeting as necessary – despite countless reports showing they are unnecessary.

HB 1420 was signed into law by Gov. Inslee, will create a license for theatrical wrestling schools. “I am happy because this means it’s going to be more easy for us to put on shows around the state,” Rey Jaguar of Lucha Libre Volcanica said following the bill signing.

Western Washington

Bellevue City Council votes to approve permanent men’s homeless shelter in Eastgate, but included a 45 day period to study two other locations.. Former King County Councilmember Claudia Balducci commented on the incomplete considerations, “at some point you have to decide to go forward and make it the best it can be.” After all, who needs facts?

Key Arena renovation plans may be put on hold because of NCAA’s March Madness. The NCAA has chosen Key Arena to host first- and second-round tournament games in the 2019 tournament. Current timetables for renovations would not have the arena usable until 2020, if renovation plans were to go through. No final decisions have been made yet.

Eastern Washington

Spokane Public Schools may bring more sixth graders into middle schools to comply with class size reduction mandates. School district associate superintendent Mark Anderson says the change would be in response to the class-size reduction mandate as well as the increased enrollment in Spokane Public Schools. No changes would be made until 2021 if approved.

Kalispel Tribe of Indians has filed a federal lawsuit against the Spokane Tribe of Indians to prevent the latter from building a casino. Kalispel believes the Spokane Tribe’s recently approved West Plains Casino would be economically destructive to their own casino.

Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Spokane) supports keeping wheat growers’ food assistance together with the farm bill. “I think that’s going to be our most successful approach,” McMorris Rodgers told a group of wheat growers during a roundtable discussion in Colfax on Monday.
