Inslee’s approach to the 2014 legislative session – more taxes, more attacks

For someone who says he is just looking for someone to negotiate with, Jay Inslee sure has a funny way of trying to build up trust.

Yesterday he complained that Republicans are trying to scare people into thinking he wants to raise taxes – even though he could wipe those fears away by saying he won’t impose a $1 per gallon gas tax on Washington drivers to force more ethanol into your fuel. But that wouldn’t make his extreme environmental base very happy.

Of course, some people might not be too inclined to actually believe anything  Inslee might say on taxes – after all, this is the same guy who said during his last campaign that raising taxes was the “wrong direction” and then he proposed a $1 billion tax increase when he got in office.

Fortunately Republicans stopped him from getting that huge tax increase last year, just as they are working to stop him from his $1 per gallon tax increase scheme this year.

But when it comes to wanting to raise your taxes, Jay Inslee will certainly keep trying.
