Despite clear evidence to the contrary, Washington State’s powerful teachers’ union (WEA) claims that school districts did not need control over $40 million in federal education grants anyway. The Oregonian,
“The Tacoma School District doesn’t expect it will be able to make up for the loss of control over $1.8 million next year… Not all the money for the instructional coaches came from Title I dollars, but Voepel says some people are going to lose their jobs… The state’s largest teacher’s union, which advocated against the change in state law that would have let Washington keep the waiver, believes some districts will get along fine without the flexibility.”
