Before one hits “Tweet”, it’s a good idea to take a moment and say, hey, what’s the obvious rebuttal to this? State Rep. Chris Reykdal might have paused just a bit before putting this out on Twitter:
The Tumwater Democrat, who is also the state teachers union’s preferred candidate for Superintendent of Public Instruction, apparently didn’t stop to consider that it’s his own party that seems so determined to “commoditize” the environment.
After all, it’s the pals of Washington’s “green” governor, Jay Inslee, who are trying to cash in on the “green” economy. Officials from his Commerce Dept. left state government so they could go to work at a firm, 1Energy Systems, that received large grants from…you guessed it, Jay Inslee’s Commerce Dept.
One state senator, a Democrat, called it a “‘laundering operation’ for connected firms,” according to the Seattle Times.
This should surprise no one. The Left is always looking to make a buck off environmental concerns. Design rules for highways and state building projects ensure work, whether it’s needed or not, for environmental consulting firms. Outside “facilitators” guide state environmental policy debates. In one case, a former gubernatorial chiefs of staff was paid by environmental non-profit groups, with Inslee’s approval, to help develop and coordinate state environmental policy.
Maybe we’re supposed to ignore all this. After all, as we reported yesterday, when it comes anything “green,” Democrats have a huge ethical blindspot. Normal rules are tossed out the window because the assumed motives are “good”.
But if Rep. Reykdal wants to find out who is truly “commoditizing” the environment, it’s not hard to determine. Just follow the “green” money.v
