The approaching legislative session provides legislators with the chance to correct one of the State Supreme Court’s biggest wrongs – the declaration that charter schools are unconstitutional. The issue is a bi-partisan one, with Democrat Representative Eric Pettigrew among the loudest voices against taking the public charter school option away from poor students in his district.
Into the fray this week comes the launch of television advertising, underwritten by the Washington Policy Center, to put pressure on the legislature to pass a fix to last fall’s court decision. The esteemed, non-partisan research center has released these ads, to highlight the negative impacts which the Supremes declaration has on current public charter school students.
Stay tuned next week for whether House Speaker Frank Chopp will yield to this bi-partisan support and allow a charter school fix to move forward in that body.
