How bad is it to have to take orders from Democrat State House Speaker Frank Chopp? Evidently, it’s so frustrating that you’d rather take orders from Jay Inslee.
Just ask Ross Hunter.
Democrat State Representative Ross Hunter—the lead House budget writer—announced that he will leave the Legislature to join Jay Inslee’s administration as Director of the Department of Early Learning. Hunter, who has been a member of the state House for 13 years, will begin his new job September 8th.
The Democrat Party has the option to nominate three people to re-place Hunter for the remainder of his term (through 2016). The King County Council—Hunter’s legislative district is entirely within the county—then has 60 days to appoint a replacement via majority vote. If the council fails to do so, Inslee must then appoint a replacement within 30 days.
Currently, the 48th District Democrats’ board is “working with King County Democrats to plan a special election at its regularly scheduled meeting” set for September 16th.
As a side note, Hunter’s new gig pays 150,000 per year.
