Tom Steyer comes to Democrats rescue with $1 million check

Jay Inslee’s favorite California billionaire – according to the Seattle Times that’s San Francisco’s Tom Steyer – has made good on his pledge to help advance his (and Inslee’s) extreme environmental agenda in Washington, putting $1 million dollars into his super PAC here, to instantly make it the second largest political committee in the state, just behind the teachers union and ahead of the trial lawyers PAC.

It has long been rumored that Steyer was going to be investing in propping up the State Senate Democrat candidates who did so poorly in the August primary, but it appears the California hedge fund activist was trying to hold off making his presence known as long as possible.  In fact, he actually waited until the deadline passed last week for the latest round of public finance reports, by writing his check on Monday and waiting until this Monday to report it.

Of course, Steyer is not new to trying to avoid public detection in Washington State politics, as he was the subject of a couple Public Disclosure Committee (PDC) complaints last year.

Now the question is whether Steyer will give money directly from his PAC to attack campaigns against Republicans, or whether he will try to hide it further from public view by laundering it through his fellow extremists at the Washington League of Conservation Voters.
