Sometimes Seattle Times Danny Westneat sounds sensible in his rambling columns – yet still demonstrates a basic lack of understanding of basic economic principles. In this one, he urges caution at an overnight minimum wage increase to $15 per hour advocated by powerful Seattle unions (and Socialist City Councilors), suggesting that government shouldn’t be the target of this effort, but rather employers who pay the wage should be.
However, he slips on the mental banana peel when he tries to compare labor using government to achieve its radical $15 Now objective with Boeing extracting tax and regulatory exemptions from government to keep jobs in Washington State. Perhaps Danny doesn’t understand that the only group which could provide the tax and regulatory exemptions to Boeing is the very one which put the policies in place – the state legislature.
