King County council member Joe McDermott, who (conveniently enough) just happens to share the last name of retiring longtime U.S. representative Jim McDermott, won the sole endorsement of the 34th District Democrats in the 7th Congressional District race. According to liberal blog Publicola, candidates need 60 percent to receive a sole endorsement. Joe McDermott got well over 60 percent of the vote.
Joe McDermott isn’t the only one to walk away with an endorsement this week. State representative Brady Walkinshaw actually picked up the support of revival State senator Pramila Jayapal’s Jayapal’s own district colleague, state representative Eric Pettigrew.
It’s unclear whether or not the fact that Jayapal does not actually live in the 7th Congressional District has anything to do with her failure to garner support among fellow Democrats.
