It’s never a good idea to emulate failure. But, that’s exactly what the City of Tacoma is considering doing when it comes to launching a bike-share program. While the City of Seattle is considering bailing out the remains of a failed plan at a cost of $1.4 million to taxpayers, Tacoma wants to launch said plan.
Like any rational person, KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson struggled to understand what Tacoma leaders could be thinking. Monson recently stated, “”Don’t let them do this! Tacoma leaders are considering getting into the bike share businesses… Tacoma, are you insane? The things that have made Pronto! A failure in Seattle … the weather in Seattle and Tacoma — people are not going to ride bikes enough to justify it. And we have hilly cities — in Tacoma, not so much as Seattle, but it’s still hilly in Tacoma.”
As Monson suggested, if Tacoma wants to become more like Seattle, its better off opening a Dick’s Drive-In.
