Socialist Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant wants everyone to believe she is in the underdog in an upcoming fight with establishment Democrats who have joined forces with Republicans to ensure she does not win re-election. In an email to supporters, Sawant warned that a political action committee (PAC) with Republican and big business ties is partnering with local Democrats to support her opponent, Pamela Banks.
Sawant’s assertion is, of course, ridiculous. It is a mere tactic to scare supporters into giving her more money.
KIRO Radio’s Jason Rantz is among those who are not buying Sawant’s claim. Rantz explains,
“If it was a broom stick that was running against Kshama Sawant, you would have people supporting the broom stick. Because Sawant is so polarizing…
“I don’t think they are supporting Pamela Banks because they think she is going to be their arm. I think Republicans literally would vote for anyone because they do not like Kshama Sawant because she does so much damage to the Republican cause.”
Sawant’s attempt to cast herself in the role of helpless candidate facing the attack of a big-bad PAC is also more than a little hypocritical. The socialist has both worked with and accepted money from PACs in the past.
Then again, Sawant isn’t known for her truthfulness, or genuine acts for that matter.
