Socialist Kshama Sawant arrested

Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant was just arrested at a protest in SeaTac over Alaska Airline’s push to block the $15 minimum wage. Protestors blocked traffic and trespassed on private property all while chanting, “Alaska Airlines rich and rude, we don’t like your attitude!”

After protestors refused to obey three separate orders to disperse, police made four arrests (including Sawant). KIRO’s Bradi Kruse asked Sawant as she was led away in cuffs what she thought Mayor Ed Murray would say about her behavior. Sawant laughed and said, “Why don’t you ask him!”

Sawant was also asked if she thought her arrest sent a positive message. She affirmed that she did and proceeded to compare herself to “all the best activists in the past and in the present” who have “put their lives on the line to fight for the rights of workers.” Because, apparently, Sawant’s demand for a $15 minimum wage is comparable to, well, any past protests and being arrested by SeaTac police is a life threatening situation.

Check out the raw footage captured of Sawant’s arrest below.
