It appears that Seattle’s rampant drug epidemic and recent distinction of having the highest per capita homeless rate in the nation still are not enough to inspire our elected leaders to fix the problem. In fact, councilmember Kshama Sawant has introduced a bill that will expand the crisis significantly by sanctioning an additional 37 taxpayer-funded homeless encampments with limitless permit terms and doing away with zoning regulations so that they can be set up in residential neighborhoods. True to her Marxist roots, Sawant longs for the day she can successfully incite a proletarian revolution to overthrow capitalism and redistribute the wealth it has created. What better way to garner support for her rent control and public housing agenda than to compel homeowners to fund the demise of their own neighborhoods?
