From the KCGOP,
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi selected Rep. Adam Smith of Bellevue to serve as one of five Democrats on a Congressional panel conducting an investigation into the Benghazi scandal.
Smith, taking his cue from President Obama, is not shy to share his disdain over Republicans’ desire to get to the truth of the September 11, 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. embassy in Libya, which resulted in the death of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. Smith called the GOP “out of touch with reality” for their concerns.
According to The Seattle Times, Smith expressed “dim hopes for the exercise” at a news conference on Wednesday. The Seattle Times,
“This is a committee that should not have been formed,” he said. “But since the Republicans chose to form it, I think we have to participate to do our best to bring out the correct arguments.”
A couple of questions for Rep. Smith:
1. Given that four Americas died in a terrorist attack on foreign soil, why is it so disdainful to you that Congress take an interest into the events that led to their death?
2. Given that hard evidence points to the White House deliberately misleading Americans on Benghazi, particularly concerning the cause of the terrorist attack, what do you suggest Congress do in order to deliver the truth to the American people? Or, would you suggest Congress do nothing and let truth die?
From the Washington Post:
- Declassified emails show “then-White House Deputy Strategic Communications Adviser Ben Rhodes and other Obama administration public relations officials attempting to orchestrate a campaign to “reinforce” President Obama and to portray the Benghazi consulate terrorist attack as being “rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure of policy.” Other documents show that State Department officials initially described the incident as an “attack” and possible kidnap attempt.
3. If the task of finding and protecting truth on behalf of the American people is so disdainful to you, why did you agree to participate on committee? In fact, why are you a member of Congress?
