King County voters decisively rejected Prop 1 (55-45), leaving liberals struggling to understand why. The most ridiculous liberal reasoning? Prop 1 lost because it attempted to implement a regressive tax for a progressive cause—which is, apparently, Metro.
A group named “Friends of Transit” is taking that reasoning to heart. They announced they will “file a Seattle-only property-tax initiative by the end of this week, to raise money for bus operations within the city.”
According to the Seattle Times, “The proposal would raise $25 million a year for six years, at a tax rate of $22 per $100,000 of property value.”
Voters, even in Seattle, sent King County a clear message—without reforms, they won’t continue pumping money into Metro. Unfortunately, liberals just can’t seem to wrap their minds around why voters want government to spend their tax dollars wisely.
