I took the weekend to see how much outrage would come from last Friday’s report in The Times about a smelly deal between outgoing Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and some of his labor supporters to try to force unionization of child care providers in the city. McGinn cut the deal with labor groups who then backed him for mayor – he lost, but this bad idea is full-steam ahead anyway.
Guess I shouldn’t have been surprised by the sound of crickets coming from the far-left elected officials in the area, none of whom thought it worthwhile to offend labor bosses with big checkbooks at SEIU 925 and AFT, just to help out small businesses and non-profits which take care of kids.
As one political observer wrote to me, this was just an example of what could be the professional Left’s slogan in the city that just elected a Socialist city council member: “progressively more corrupt.”
