Longtime state income tax advocate and Democrat senate poohbah Jamie Pederson has finally realized that the Democrats are in big trouble in this fall’s election thanks to his party’s unpopular policies – but he doesn’t want the taxpayers voting him and his fellow bigger government advocates out of office. You don’t need to take Shift’s word for it, just consider the social media reporting coming out of the last 43rd District Democrat meeting, where Senator Pederson, unable to deny the catastrophic results of 30 years of disastrous Democrat policies, started using his outside voice when responding to concerned Democrat activists when they quizzed him on some of the crazy, power hungry, decisions the Democrats made this past legislative session.
Electoral concerns also were explained as the main driver that the Democrats forced a massively expensive (and wasteful) transportation package through with no bi-partisan input or projects. The $17 billion-dollar package was all to make Democrats look good for their base, by only including projects for their own districts.
Socialist/Democrat Representative Nicole Macri, in response to why she voted for the transportation package, felt disappointed that she had to vote for more roads and would have preferred not to add any more road capacity, ever. The package highlight for Marci? Banning gas car sales after 2030. Yes, you read that right, the Democrats voted to ban gas-powered cars and trucks after 2030 in Washington State – though you might not know that from mainstream media coverage of the transportation “debate” during the session.
As is typical for the Democrats, it’s all about payoffs and power. They don’t seem to care about the voters they represent, just the power they have to push a radical agenda of freedom-killing legislation, government mandates, and the most amount of taxes they can extract from the people of Washington.
In another telling comment, Sen. Pederson said of the court ruling that suspended the unconstitutional Democrat state income tax on capital gains, “that it’s not the last word” and when asked about if the Democrats would introduce an income tax, he added the realistic assessment that “There would be a lot of work to do that in a way that would not create a Republican legislature.”
Once again, showing their Democrat colors, they want to create an unconstitutional state income tax, but only if they don’t have to admit that to the voters so they can get away with it.
Democrat stalwart, the previously ousted former Speaker of the House Frank Chopp, while pushing for new taxes, couldn’t help contain his glee at the passage of the state income tax last year, because the Democrats told the voters the state needed the money. Sen. Pederson piled on to Rep. Chopp’s comments by lamenting that the Democrats failed at passing a wealth tax over the last few years, but did warn if the Democrats try again, they will lose control of the legislature. Rep. Macri, claiming to be unconcerned about electoral concerns, wholeheartedly supported all the new taxes and still wants more.
It was somewhat stunning to see this summary of the 2022 Democrat election strategy on social media display, and with no mainstream media coverage. Just raise as many taxes as you can, and hope the voters are too distracted to notice.
Well we’ve noticed.
