Less than two months ago, Jim McDermott assured the far-left supporters who have kept him in office for nearly three decades that he was running for re-election, even though a Democrat state representative had announced a primary challenge to him.
Turns out that was just another example of McDermott’s willingness to avoid the truth when it suited him (remember the illegal leak of cellular call that he denied, and was later convicted of doing).
According to the Associated Press, McDermott is telling colleagues that he will announce his retirement today.
So now eyes will turn towards the Seattle Mayor’s office, to see if Ed Murray leads a parade of liberals in running for the now open (and very safe for a Democrat) congressional seat.
Let the left’s version of the Hunger Games begin.

Why so limited? While Seattle may lack Republican elected officials — to no recorded sorrow here in town — we have plenty more than just Democratic candidates as our options.
NO one on the list !!!!!
Agreed. Seattle should think bigger. We already have an elected official with national name recognition, who has defeated a long-established incumbent, and who has pushed an agenda in which Seattle’s voters clearly believe. Yes, it’s time!
Kshama Sawant for Congresss!
You read it here first.
Oh happy day…
Be careful what you wish for.

NO! We should ALL cut our wrists if Sawant were to happen. McDermott was bad enough, Can anyone think of anything McDermott did in the 3 decades he was in congress other than make meaning less speeches and collect a big paycheck? But Sawant in congress would force me to move out of her district or even out of state….

Sawant in Congress would be like Bertha in Seattle BIG mistake!

Seattle has incrementally gone to the dark side over the last few decades. O that it were possible to free Washington state of this socialist abcess, the rest of us might benefit for once in a while.
