The Washington Education Association (WEA) appears to be more than a little confused about which party’s agenda it supports. You see, every election year, the WEA pours millions of union member dues into the election of Democrats. By that fact, logically, one would assume the WEA’s agenda aligns with Democrats’ agenda. The opposite is true concerning the latest policy to offend the WEA—the problem is, the WEA is blaming Republicans.
Here is a recent call-to-action email the WEA sent to its supporters:
“Stop the state health care takeover!
“If you’re a K-12 school employee, your health care coverage is under attack in the state Senate!
“The Senate just passed a state budget that eliminates the current K-12 health-care system and replaces it with a new state-run plan that will cost more, provide fewer benefits and limit your health-care choices.
“Under the Senate takeover plan (SB 5976), there’s no guarantee you’d keep your current doctors and health providers, and you could pay more for less coverage.
“Their takeover plan also eliminates local control over educator health benefits, which means decisions about your health care will be made in Olympia instead at the school district level.
“I just emailed my legislators about the Senate plan to take over our health care system. You should, too, just click here…”
Interestingly enough, what the WEA just described is… Obamacare. Apparently, for the WEA, the healthcare policy supported by Democrats it backs and that it believes is good enough for working families across America, is simply not good enough for itself.
For the sake of honestly, the WEA is better off editing its call-to-action as follows:
