The Daily Shift – September 6, 2016

The Labor Day weekend – and summer – are behind us, and the general election is just nine weeks away. That means the big news must be about … the start of football season. Yes the Huskies opened with a victory Saturday, but on Shift the loss to write about for Washington State University last week was the news that one of their researchers made up a story an Eastern Washington rancher deliberately releasing his own cattle to be killed by wolves. WSU officials were justifiably chagrined at the lack of ethics shown by their own absent-minded professor, who promised “he would have no further public comment on the subject” after being caught lying.

Also caught telling less than truth, according to the primary foe he defeated, was First Legislative District Senate candidate Guy Palumbo. His fellow Democrat, soon-to-be-ex-Representative Luis Moscoso, took to Facebook to rip the man who kept him from advancing to the general election and announce he would not be endorsing him. Jay Inslee, on the other hand, is generally proud to announce his endorsement of any initiative sponsored by his million-dollar campaign donors, and he used the long weekend to email “friends” about why he supports the State Labor Council’s minimum wage initiative – though he evidently doesn’t know that state law already raises our state’s minimum wage based on increases in the cost of living. Oh well, why let facts get in the way of a good email – maybe he picked that up from the WSU professor.
