The Daily Shift – September 20, 2016

News out of Seattle dominates Shift today, as Olympia has gone suddenly quiet – perhaps it was Jay Inslee returning to his capital office for the first time in several weeks that has caused folks to hunker down, nose-to-the-grindstone-style.

Or not.

And actually, it was an Olympia agency – the Public Disclosure Commission – which did cause Sound Transit to top our news today, with staff finding that the light-rail bureaucrats had broken state campaign laws to help try to pass this fall’s $54 billion tax plan to help…Sound Transit bureaucrats (and the donors who make light rail go)!

That disclosure barely edged out the clown show that is the Seattle City Council for top spot, though the Council earned two entries for its trouble on Monday. First, Seattle’s electeds decided that they should have control over how certain businesses in the city schedule and hire their employees, starting next July 1. Evidently that approach is working great in San Francisco – though no other city in the country thinks the idea has merit.  And, in the nightcap of this comic doubleheader, the Council (or at least three of them) stayed overtime to listen to protestors clamor for the need to “disarm” the police, among other suggestions to improve the city (for those who like to break the law).

Just another day in paradise.
