The Daily Shift – August 31, 2016

The Shift Team is realistic about Seattle politics, and we knew that a Republican (or even semi-business friendly Democrat) was not going to get elected to replace Jim McDermott as the member of Congress from the 7th Congressional District. However, we did hold out hope that Baghdad Jim would be replaced by someone closer to, say, Norm Rice than Kshama Sawant.

But, alas, no such luck based on a story we cover today out of DC. Turns out that likely winner State Senator Pramila Jayapal is not only trying to outflank Sawant on the Socialist side, but she also is a Colin Kaepernick fan!

More hopeful news came from the Washington Policy Center, which wrote that the law which creates secret negotiations between the governor and state employee unions might be unconstitutional. We also share with you the semi-hopeful news that Jay Inslee continues to have trouble raising money even as the month draws to a close. And finally, we chide the media a bit over giving coverage to an enviro group which wants to end civilization – and thus the media – as we know it.

So be like the enviros, hang in there!
